ABOUT HAMILTON FAMILY CENTER:
The mission of Hamilton Family Center is to end family homelessness by moving families into permanent housing as quickly as possible and assisting at-risk families to avoid eviction. Working under the Housing First philosophy, Hamilton strives to keep families out of the shelter system, provide families with temporary rental subsidies, rapidly re-house families that are currently in shelter programs, and offer twelve months of enhanced home-based support services to families Hamilton places in permanent housing. Additionally, Hamilton Family Center offers permanent supportive housing with on-site case management, temporary shelter, nutritious meals, educational and recreational programming for children, housing search assistance, advocacy, life skills workshops, and financial assistance. Through these services, Hamilton enhances a person’s prospects of securing permanent housing and achieving self-sufficiency.
Hamilton Family Center was founded in 1985 in response to the rising number of homeless families in San Francisco. Originally managed entirely by volunteers, Hamilton became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1987. As the numbers and needs of homeless families in the Bay Area have grown, Hamilton Family Center has grown to meet them, offering a continuum of support services for families seeking shelter and support to rebuild their lives. Up to 300 people each night (60% of whom are children) sleep in our two shelter programs and our transitional housing facility. Hamilton offers tutoring and recreational activities to hundreds of kids a year through its Children’s Services. Hamilton helps countless families find housing. Additionally, at its permanent supportive housing facility, Hamilton offers comprehensive on-site support services to help 125 residents maintain stable housing.
